FOSSConf event is just concluded at Madras Institute of Technology, Chennai. In last 3 days, various events including Demo Stalls, Talks, Project demos, Tutorial sessions and Linux Installation demos were conducted. More than 90% of the participants were students. Students from various colleges Thiyagaraya Engineering College, Madurai, Jaya Engineering College, RMD Engineering college, Kavaraipet, Sona Engineering College, Salem and ofcourse MIT students attended the session.
It was very informative for all participants. The kind of eagerness shown by students is good. The event is concluded by a talk by Brian Behlendorf, the founder of Apache software. He distributed prizes for students who have organized for the best stalls and showcased the best projects.
The level of participation among students clearly conveys the trend set among students community in the country. They are starting to know/understand how FOSS community exist while they are at the college. They are going to make use of it when they get a job. I'm sure they'll carry forward the knowledge gained, and inculcate the awareness within the community.
After all, it looks like a FOSS trend is emerging among students. The photos taken during the event can be found here:
